An acoustic sensor device with an ultrasound transmitter and receiver, determines the distance of an object by measuring the time difference between an exiting sound-wave and corresponding reflecting incoming sound-wave. The sensor is rotatably mounted such that a specifiable one-dimensional angular area can be successively irradiated by the ultrasound sender.
