The time required for matching the registered feature information with the input feature information can be reduced significantly as follows. From the biometrics information of a person to be authenticated, matching feature information and a plurality of types of matching attribute information are extracted. The matching priority of a plurality of registration feature information is calculated according to the registration attribute information and matching attribute information correlated to the registration feature information. According to the matching priority calculated, the matching feature information is successively matched with the registration feature information. Thus, among the registration feature information, it is possible to identify one which is matched with the matching feature information.
