<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate setting for a dot position by type of glass, and to enhance thereby versatility for a dot portion. <P>SOLUTION: An image processing means 15 processes an image of a transparent object 3 imaged by an image pick-up means 14, and detects a defect of the transparent object 3 containing a dotlike printing portion in its one portion. An original image of the transparent object 3 is formed into blocks in every of m×n picture elements, and a value of the maximum brightness-the minimum brightness within the each block serves as brightness of the block. The blocks of a prescribed brightness level or more are extracted to serve as defect candidates, and the candidates including the blocks of a prescribed number or more are excepted from the candidates.
