PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce height to downsize the engine head, and to prevent uneven wear of a roller. SOLUTION: A variable valve system comprises: a control cam 11 formed to a control shaft 10 disposed near a rocker arm 1; an interposing arm 21 disposed to be capable of swinging around the control shaft 10; a rotary cam 42 disposed to make a valve 6 lift through the interposing arm 21; an interposing member 30 disposed to be slidable to the interposing arm 21; and a lift control device. In the lift control device, by changing an orientation angle, the interposing member 30 is slid to move a contact position of a third roller 34 and the control cam 11 and move a contact position of a second roller 33 and the rotary cam 42 so as to change a swing starting angle of the interposing arm 21, so that the rotary cam 42 changes a lift amount and a working angle of the valve 6.
