PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve diagnostic accuracy in a fuel vapor leak diagnosis; and to improve a diagnostic frequency by avoiding influence of fuel vapor pressure by evaporation of fuel vapor and sloshing. SOLUTION: The fuel vapor is filled in a fuel vapor purge system composed of a fuel storage tank, a canister and a communicating tube, and the existence of leak is detected on the basis of a pressure change in the fuel vapor purge system after filling. The influence of the fuel vapor pressure is reduced by bringing the fuel vapor in the tank near to a saturated state by filling the fuel vapor, and a diagnosis can be made even under an operation condition such as generating the sloshing.
