PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a glass bead by which the glass bead is efficiently obtained without distributing the particle size of the resultant glass bead over a wide range and a mustache-like material does not occur on the surface of the resultant glass bead. SOLUTION: The glass bead is manufactured by allowing molten glass to flow down from a glass melting furnace, cooling to equal to or below the softening point to make a glass rod, blowing a primary high temperature fluid having 1,000-2,000°C to the tip part of the glass rod to melt the glass rod and blowing off as a glass particle and cooling the blown glass particle.
