<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect an inappropriate cartridge in which consumed articles such as toner and ink are refilled and to block its use. <P>SOLUTION: A cartridge is provided with a toner chamber filled with the toner. Operation information of a printer is written in a memory provided to the cartridge. When the cartridge is loaded on a printer main body after refilling inappropriate toner in the cartridge, judgment whether the cartridge is the inappropriate one in which the toner is refilled or the appropriate one is performed based on information written in a cartridge memory. When the cartridge is judged as the inappropriate one, warning display and print prohibition are performed.
