PURPOSE: Provided are an anode can capable of obtaining a sufficient strength in a fixing portion thereof and a cathode cover of a battery, and a method for manufacturing the anode can. CONSTITUTION: The cylindrical anode can (1) has a sidewall and extends along a central axis (17). The sidewall has an upper end portion (2) acting as a large thickness portion having a relatively large thickness and a sidewall small thickness portion (3) having a thickness relatively smaller than that of the upper end portion. The upper end portion is located at an end of the sidewall, and the sidewall small thickness portion is a portion other than the upper end portion in the sidewall. In the sidewall, a distance (L3) between an outer circumferential surface of the upper end portion and the central axis is equal to a distance (L3) between an outer circumferential surface of the sidewall small thickness portion and the central axis. Meanwhile, a distance (L1) between an inner circumferential surface of the upper end portion and the central axis is smaller than a distance (L2) between an inner circumferential surface of the sidewall small thickness portion and the central axis.
