PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that stress is applied to an optical fiber when the optical fiber is joined with a metallic fixed member with a glass sealing material to cause a deterioration in optical characteristic. SOLUTION: The package for storing a optical semiconductor element comprises a container main body 1 which has on its top surface a recessed part for storing an optical semiconductor element and has at its side part a through hole 1a penetrating the container main body 1 from an external surface to the recessed part, a cylindrical metallic fixing member 4 which is inserted and fixed in the through hole 1a or fixed to the external surface of the container main body 1 at a periphery of the through hole 1a and into which an optical fiber 5 is inserted having its end surface opposite the optical semiconductor element and fixed to the inner peripheral surface of the member 4 with a glass sealing material 6, and a lid body 7 which is fitted to the top surface of the container main body 1 and airtightly stores the optical semiconductor element in the recessed part. The metallic fixing member 4 has a through hole 4b which penetrates the metallic fixing member from an area on the inner peripheral surface where the optical fiber 5 is fixed with the glass sealing material 6 to the circumferential surface, and is blocked with the glass sealing material 6 and has sectional area larger than the sectional area of the inner side 4a of the inner peripheral surface.
