PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable electronic apparatus capable of recording information on shocks that have impinged on the apparatus. SOLUTION: A camera 200 has an acceleration sensor 211. When the shocks whose intensity exceeds a certain level have been detected, a self test is performed whether a lens 201, an image pickup 202, a signal processor 203, a recorder 204, and a displaying unit 205 function properly or not. If any breakage is detected, the detected result is recorded in a shock log/test log memory 210 together with information on the time. Then, in order to inform to users that the breakage has occurred, a message is shown on the displaying unit 205, and then an alarm sound is output from a sound outputting section 208.
