摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance, without complicating configuration, functions to suppress rotational fluctuation and energy loss by appropriately reducing the pressure in the combustion chambers, in an internal combustion engine equipped with these functions. SOLUTION: An intake valve characteristic changing mechanism provided for each cylinder of the engine allows two rocker arms to interlock with each other in a decompression operation mode, making the movement of an intake valve a combined one of movement following the shape of a first intake cam and movement following the shape of a second intake cam. Also, an exhaust valve characteristic changing mechanism provided for each cylinder of the engine allows two rocker arms to interlock with each other in the decompression operation mode, and makes the movement of an exhaust valve a combined one of movement following the shape of a first exhaust cam and movement following the shape of a second exhaust cam. Consequently, the exhaust valve opens during the expansion stroke and the exhaust stroke, and the intake valve opens during the intake stroke and the compression stroke, thus suppressing the fluctuation in the engine rotation.
