PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a slide rail for an overhung sliding door, which can be used for both vertical mounting and horizontal mounting, selectively performed according to need, for example, according to mounting conditions on a wall side or a ceiling side. SOLUTION: An outer guide part 10d of an outer rail 10 and an inner guide part 11b of an inner rail 11 are formed by bending respective ball guide surfaces 15 and 20, facing each other by sandwiching a traveling ball (a) in between, in such an almost semicircular cross-sectional shape that an almost semi-peripheral surface of the traveling ball can be supplied onto each of the guide surfaces 15 and 20. In a retainer 12, each of elastic holding pieces 12b, which are integrally molded from a resin material and elongated by facing each other on left and right sides in a width direction, is provided with a first ball holding hole 24 which undergoes the freely rollable fitting of the traveling ball in the state of having an almost entire perimeter held by the outer guide part and the inner guide part, and a second ball holding hole 15 which undergoes the freely rollable fitting of a retaining ball (b) for regulating the movement of the inner rail by holding the inner guide part in the state of being sandwiched between the traveling ball and the retaining ball.
