There are provided a device and a method for realizing improved management processing according to content identifier information in a server. In a content providing server, unique identifier information corresponding to a content is set as property information as a constituting element of meta data corresponding to the content. Even when the logical and physical position of the content whose unique identifier information is stored in the storage section is modified, the unique identifier information is not modified and maintained as meta data corresponding to the content. The unique identifier information is managed as meta data corresponding to the input content without modifying the set value of the unique identifier information. With this configuration, even when a content shift is generated between servers, a content can be acquired by a client according to a unique identifier.
