A magnetic head (4) and a magnetic head holding member (41) are cantilever-supported by a connection member (40). The magnetic head (4) includes a support member (6) having a support member elastic section (10) and a head main body (5) attached to a free end. The magnetic head holding member (41) has an elastic spring section (44) in the vicinity of the connection member (40) and opposes to an information recording medium (1) via the support member (6). The magnetic head holding member (41) has a posture holding section (48) protruding to the side of the information recording medium. When the magnetic head (4) is at a first position at which the head main body (5) is in the vicinity of or in contact with the information recording medium (1) for performing recording or reproduction, the posture holding section (48) is brought into abutment with a cartridge holder (49). Thus, it is possible to reduce the thickness of the magnetic head device and a magneto-optical recording/reproduction device. Moreover, by reducing the number of parts, it is possible to produce the magneto-optical recording/reproduction device at a lower cost.
