PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the deterioration of discharge characteristics and a drop in a yield of a gap type gas arrester. SOLUTION: The gap type gas arrester A1 is constituted in such a way that a joining laminated part 4 in which at least two kinds of different metals are alternately arranged is formed in an insulator 1, the joining laminated part is melted to join a discharge electrode 5 to the insulator. Since the joining laminated part in which at least two kinds of different metals are alternately arranged in the insulator and the joining laminated part is melted to join the discharge electrode to the insulator, melted joining laminated part does not flow out to the surface of the insulator, does not form pinholes, and the discharge characteristics of the gap type arrester are enhanced.
