PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To finely and automatically control temperature of three sets of polarizing plates on the incident side, liquid crystal panels and polarizing plates on the emitting side. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal projector automatically controls airflow of cooled wind by transmitting the temperature of the three sets of polarizing plates 18R, 18G, 18B on the incident side, liquid crystal panels 19R, 19G, 19B, the polarizing plates 20R, 20G, 20B on the emitting side to thermal shape-memory alloys 74R, 74G, 74B via heat conduction members 75R, 75G, 75B and 73R, 73G, 73B and controlling opening/closing of opening/closing doors 72R, 72G, 72B by the thermal shape-memory alloys 74R, 74G, 74B and maintains the temperature of the polarizing plates 18R, 18G, 18B on the incident side, the liquid crystal panels 19R, 19G, 19B, the polarizing plates 20R, 20G, 20B on the emitting side at the stable temperature.
