PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oxidation type hair dye good in touch feeling and gloss of hair after dyeing and enabling a uniform dyeing. SOLUTION: The oxidation type hair dye is composed by compounding an N-acylamino acid salt represented by general formula (I): R-CON(CH<SB>3</SB>)CH<SB>2</SB>COOM, (II): R-CON(CH<SB>3</SB>)CH<SB>2</SB>CH<SB>2</SB>COOM or (III): R-CONHCH(COOM)CH<SB>2</SB>CH<SB>2</SB>COOM, and poly(dimethylmethylene piperidinium chloride). In formulas (I) to (III), R is a 3-33C straight chain or blanched chain alkyl or alkenyl, and M is H, an alkali metal, an alkaline earth metal, ammonium, a lower alkanol, an alkylamine cation or basic amino acid cation.
