PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance value of ornamental pearls by adding functions generating negative ions, infrared rays and the like in addition to applications as the ornament. SOLUTION: Tourmaline is processed in a spherical form and used as a nucleus of cultured pearls or imitation pearls. As another method for generating the nucleus for the cultured pearls or the imitation pearls, the nucleus of the pearls is prepared by pulverizing tourmaline and solidifying pulverized tourmaline with a resin to form a spherical form, or mixing powdery shell used as conventional nucleus of the pearls, powdery silicic acid, lime and the like, solidifying the mixture with a resin, baking or melting the resin-treated mixture at a high temperature and cooling the same.
