PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader which effectively prevents the oscillation of a scanning body in the image reader at acceleration in image reading and continuous image reading without complicating its structure and control and without largely increasing its cost to thereby provide a satisfactory image. SOLUTION: The image reader reads an image of an original by exposing/scanning the original by a second scanning body 1 having an optical system element and at least one elastic body 20 is arranged in the vicinity of a home position from which reciprocation of the second scanning body 1 is started.
