PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly avoid an abnormal high pressure state in a common rail 2 without increasing system cost by accurately detecting the fact, when a long time is required for opening a pressure limiter 16, or the abnormal high pressure state continues in the common rail 2 such as being unable to open the pressure limiter 16. SOLUTION: When continuing for a long time in the abnormal high pressure state where common rail pressure PC exceeds a first threshold PCTH1 or a second threshold PCTH2, it is determined as abnormal failure of a fuel supply pump 4, and an engine is instantly stopped according to a degree or the engine is stopped after a prescribed time passes, and the abnormal high pressure state in the common rail 2 is quickly avoided, and seizure of the fuel supply pump 4 can be prevented.
