PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for toning a metallic coating color useful as an ultimate fine color matching when a color sample (a color arrangement) perfectly fitting an object color to be mended is not available or a coating color with a color arrangement by a CCM system is slightly different during a color arrangement for an automotive repair coating material or the like. SOLUTION: In this toning method, a metallic coating color (A) which is a color preparation object and a metallic coating color (B) of which the coating arrangement is known and which approximates the coating color (A) are brought to a comparison in which a front view color and an oblique view color of respective coating colors are visually compared and a primary color coating arrangement constituting the coating arrangement of the metallic coating color (B) is changed based on the difference. The primary color coating arrangement to be changed is determined to match the metallic coating color (A) using an arrangement conversion index calculated based on a blend ratio of each metallic primary color coating to a colored primary color coating of which the lightness level of the front view color is identical from characteristics based on a scale of a front view color and an oblique view color of respective coating colors of respective primary color coatings constituting the coating toning arrangement of the metallic coating color (B).
