PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of imaging a principal object without causing black area thereto even in the case of imaging under a backlight and preventing halation in the regions other than the principal object. SOLUTION: A CCD 18 receives the light from an object with first sensitivity, acquires high sensitivity data in response to the received luminous quantity, receives the light from the object with second sensitivity, and acquires low sensitivity data in response to the received luminous quantity. When a composite processing circuit 80 composites the acquired high sensitivity data and low sensitivity data in a way of extending the dynamic range in response to a set coefficient, a CPU 62 discriminates whether or not the imaging is performed under the backlight on the basis of the image data acquired by the CCD 18, sets a predetermined condition to increase the lightness of the object more than that in the other cases and sets the coefficient to extend the dynamic range more as a degree of the increase in the lightness of the object is more increased when discriminating that the imaging is performed under the backlight.
