PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide facilities which correctly perform depth control when soil improvement at great depths is conducted by a soil improving machine having generally applicable construction equipment as a base machine. SOLUTION: According to the structure of the soil improving machine, a backhoe 1 has an arm 3 which has a head casing 5 supported at the tip thereof, and the head casing 5 allows an ascendable/descendable agitating mixing head 6 to be insertably supported thereby. Then penetration of a first-stage of the agitating mixing head 6 into the ground is carried out by thrust of the backhoe 1, and penetration of a second-stage is carried out by thrust of an ascent/descent driving mechanism 25. Thereafter the agitating mixing head 6 is horizontally moved to carry out the soil improvement. Further outputs detected by inclinometers 35, 36 and a depth indicator 37 are taken into a penetrated depth control device 38 to calculate the depth in the ground, and a value indicating the penetrated depth is visibly displayed on a display section in a cabin.
