An adaptor for fitting a protective cowl onto a supply line, e.g. for remote coupling to underground lines, has a cylindrical body with a lipped end (1.4) to provide a coupling seat for one end of the cowl, which is secured by a ratchet grip. The adaptor is secured onto the pipe connection by inward facing sectors (11) with grip edges (1,2) and separated by radial slits (1.5). The adaptor has a one piece construction of an elastic material.
