<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device and an image forming apparatus capable of always performing correction control and also performing more accurate control following in variance amount when a user uses them. <P>SOLUTION: The fixing device has a fixing unit (12) equipped with a fixing heater (10) for fixing toner and a temperature sensing element (11) which is arranged near the heater (10) and whose resistance value changes according to detected temperature. Furthermore, the fixing device has a new one detecting means (13) detecting whether or not the fixing unit is new, a fixing heater turn-on duty arithmetic correction means (14) obtaining the appropriate output of the fixing heater by varying the turn-on duty of the fixing heater in a fixed control time, obtaining temperature/time characteristic under a specified condition and arithmetically correcting the turn-on duty in accordance with the gradient of the characteristic, and an optimizing processing means (15) always obtaining the optimum output of the fixing heater regardless of the variance of the fixing heater. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
