PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for monitoring the gas supply connection to a mechanical respiration device for automatically stopping the gas flow to the respiration device and/or the gas flow from the respiration device when a gas source connected to the respiration device is monitored and a wrong gas supply connection is detected. SOLUTION: The device further includes a comparator connected to be operative to a transceiver device for receiving a signal depending on the amplitude of detected energy, and generates a control signal from the comparison of received signals used for inhibiting a gas flow passing through the respiration device.
