PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a testing method and device of a lateral pressure of optical fibers, which can accurately measure the fluctuation in light transmission loss based on the influence of the lateral pressure without occurrence of any stress concentration. SOLUTION: The testing method of the lateral pressure of optical fibers, comprising the steps of coupling a light source 12 to one end of an optical fiber and also coupling a light transmission loss measuring apparatus 14 to the other end thereof and applying a lateral pressure load to the optical fiber, thereby measuring the fluctuation in optical transmission loss, wherein a vertical force F is applied to an optical fiber 10 by means of a lateral pressure plate 15 having an angleψformed together with an edge portion of 30°≤ψ≤60°.
