PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a loss at the exchange of types, caused by the exchange of nozzles in a production process of a synthetic fiber. SOLUTION: The method for producing a flat synthetic fiber involves subjecting the synthetic fiber to a compression treatment within a temperature range between a temperature not lower than (the softening point of the resin constituting the fiber -5°C) and a temperature not higher than the melting point in the production process of the fiber. Preferably, the fiber spun from a flat nozzle is subjected to the compression treatment within the temperature range between the temperature not lower than (the softening point of the resin constituting the fiber -5°C) and the temperature not higher than the melting point to change the flatness.
