PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a merocyanine compound and a silver halide photosensitive material each having high sensitivity, good shelf life and little residual color. SOLUTION: The merocyanine compound is substituted with a substituent group in which a nitrogen atom of a basic nuclei is eliminated by reaction with a nucleophilic reagent.
