Gas chromatography apparatus comprises a base (2) of thermally insulating material adapted to engage and thereby complete a partial enclosure (5) and having mounted thereon a detector (26), sample inlet means (18) accessible from outside the completed enclosure, and means (27) to connect the outlet end of a column to said detector. In the illustrated embodiment, to which the above numerals relate, the sampler 18 and detector 26 are mounted to lie outside the enclosure (when the base is resting as a lid thereon) whilst a column 31 is inside the enclosure. The enclosure may be heated by elements 7 and an even temperature obtained by means of fan 10. A further fan 13 cools the motor, the air entering and leaving through vents 14. A separate control unit 3 is provided. The base and apparatus mounted thereon may be replaced when desired, for a fresh analysis, and the individual components are replaceable. If desired the detector 26 may be mounted within a constant temperature enclosure. |
