Production of magnesium sulfate comprises reacting a magnesium chloride solution with alkali metal sulfates, alkali metal sulfate hydrates, sulfate double salts or mixtures of these sulfates or their aqueous solutions, optionally containing alkali metal chlorides, at 25-45[deg]C, separating solid alkali metal chloride from the solution and crystallizing magnesium sulfate by cooling to between -10 and +10[deg]C.
