Driver assistance system for helping a driver to stay within a lane of a motorway. The system involves generation of haptic, especially vibration signals, that indicate to the driver when he is within a critical distance of the edge of a lane. The signals are designed so that they also intuitively indicate to the driver whether the vehicle is approaching the right or left side of the lane.
