SOD-ACTIVATING ZINC COMPLEXES

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an SOD (superoxide dismutase; active oxygen dismutation enzyme)-activating agent derived from a zinc (II) complex.

SOLUTION: This SOD activating agent comprises a Zn (II) complex selected from the group consisting of zinc complexes represented by the general formulas: [ZnL2]2+A2-, [ZnL3]2+A2-, and [Zn(tpa)]2+A2-[L is a 2,2'-bipyridine compound or a phenanthroline compound; tpa is a tris(pyridylmethyl)amine compound; one or more coordinative solvent molecules may be coordinated at one or more ligand-free coordination sites of each complex; and A2-is two monovalent ions or one divalent ion which are two anions or one anion paired with a divalent cation].
