<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processor capable of obtaining the reproduced image of high image quality in the case of an internal processing such as copying and transmitting general purpose image signals to external equipment. <P>SOLUTION: An image area separation part 14 discriminates the black characters of RGB signals read by a scanner 1 and generates black character identification signals, a code embedding part 4 embeds the black character identification signals to the RGB signals and stores them in a memory part 6 and an irreversible compression part 5 reversibly compresses the black character identification signals and stores them in the memory part 6.
