<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal printer which can reduce gloss anisotropy of print images to be recorded. <P>SOLUTION: A step 64 is generated in accordance with the presence/absence of heating elements 50 in a main scanning direction of a thermal head 14. A heightΔH of the step 64 is set to be 0.05-0.3μm. Dents and bumps in the main scanning direction of a color thermal recording paper surface are reduced. Moreover, a drive pulse necessary for recording of one pixel is divided to a plurality of pulses, and the plurality of pulses are applied to the heating elements 50 while one pixel is recorded.
