PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a directional diversity antenna device and a communication device in which directivity is remarkably changed and an antenna gain is enlarged. SOLUTION: Paired microstrip patch antennas 2, 3 are disposed at an interval on the same plane. While inverse phase side feeding parts 7<SB>2</SB>, 7<SB>3</SB>are connected to an external high frequency circuit 14 by a switching operation of a switch circuit 6, horizontally polarized electric fields of mutually inverse phases are excited in the microstrip patch antennas 2, 3. Thus, strong directivity is obtained in an end-fire direction. While common-mode side feeding parts 8<SB>2</SB>, 8<SB>3</SB>are connected to the high frequency circuit 14 by the switching operation of the switch circuit 6, horizontally polarized electric fields of the same phase are excited in the microstrip patch antennas 2, 3. Thus, strong directivity is obtained in a broad side direction.
