PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vending machine that, by means of a noncontact card, facilitates a selection of an article corresponding to the owner's characteristics or an article purchased in the past, and enables the purchase of the article by a mere holding of the card over it and without an article selecting operation. SOLUTION: The vending machine comprises a main control part 30 for controlling article sale, a noncontact-IC-card-compliant reader/writer 24, an infrared communication part 22 adapted to a portable terminal, a Bluetooth(R) communication part 23, a CCD camera 21, a ticket printer 25, a speaker 27, a human-detection sensor 26, an LCD display 20 with a touch panel, and a second control part 10 for controlling the reader/writer, infrared communication light reception part, CCD camera, ticket printer, speaker, human-sensitive sensor and LCD display.
