PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a difference between output images from respective CCDs occurring depending upon whether an image is reflected on a half mirror or is transmitted through it in an image reader for acquiring the images using a plurality of the CCDs. SOLUTION: Reflected light from a document is incident on the half mirror through a condenser lens. The light reflected on the half mirror is received by a second CCD 242, and the light transmitting through the half mirror is received by first and third CCDs 241 and 243. An image information output from each CCD is A/D-converted by an image processing part 30, and image information output from the first and third CCDs is USM-processed in USM processing parts 34 and 35. The output image of the first and third CCDs after the USM processing and the output image of the second CCD are processed in a splicing part 36, resulting in providing the image information of one scan.
