PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the glossiness of print images by effectively smoothing dents and bumps of a recording paper surface after thermally recorded. SOLUTION: A thermal head 16 for a smoothing process is arranged at the downstream side of a thermal head 14 for recording. The thermal head 16 applies a predetermined heat energy to a color thermal recording paper 24 after thermally recorded, and at the same time presses the color thermal recording paper 24 between a platen roller 52 and the thermal head, thereby making the dents and bumps of the recording paper surface flat. A friction coefficient between the thermal head 16 and the color thermal recording paper 24 is set to be 0.2-0.5. Moreover, a friction force to be applied from the thermal head 16 to a thermal recording material is set to be 1.0-3.0 kf. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
