It is an object of the invention to provide polyvinyl acetal, a polyvinyl acetal composition, ink, coating material, a dispersant, a ceramic green sheet, a primer for a plastic lens, a recording material for water-based ink and an adhesive for metal foil, which are superior in film-forming capability, dispersibility of a dispersion matter and adhesion to the surface to be coated, and can realize higher solid contents. The invention provides a polyvinyl acetal, which contains one or more functional groups in a molecule.
