Detecting an analyte in a sample comprising contacting the sample with a detection reagent comprising an amino-substituted 2,1,3-benzoxadiazole N-oxide (I) as a fluorimetric redox indicator, is new. Detecting an analyte in a sample comprises contacting the sample with a detection reagent comprising an amino-substituted 2,1,3-benzoxadiazole N-oxide of formula (I) as a fluorimetric redox indicator. An independent claim is also included for a reagent for detecting an analyte by redox reaction and fluorimetric determination, comprising a compound (I) as redox indicator.
