A soft tissue reconstruction system uses a method for fixating and anchoring a graft within a bone tunnel (72), and is especially adapted for reconstructing a defective anterior cruciate ligament. The reconstruction system (1) is assembled ex-vivo by threading a graft (14) through an opening disposed on a first shaft connected to a first bone anchor (18), and fixing a ring member (34) around the graft (14) and a second shaft (12) for securing the graft (14) to the second shaft (12) that is connected to a second bone anchor (36). After the assembled reconstruction system (1) is inserted into the bone tunnel (72), the first bone anchor (18) is anchored to bone material (70) adjacent one end of the bone tunnel, and the second bone anchor (36) is anchored to bone material (71) adjacent another end of the bone tunnel (72). <IMAGE>
