METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR IMPROVING CONTRAST RATIO OF AC PLASMA DISPLAY PANEL

PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus are provided to achieve improved contrast ratio by removing the light emitted during initialization of cells having no discharges in the previous sub field. CONSTITUTION: A method comprises a first step of removing wall charges from an X-electrode and a Y-electrode serving as sustain electrodes by applying a predetermined voltage to the space between the X-electrode and the Y-electrode; and a second step of forming an initial wall charge by applying a predetermined voltage to the X-electrode and the Y-electrode in such a manner that the Y-electrode is applied with a higher voltage so as to cause a discharge between an address electrode and the Y-electrode. In the first step, the voltage applied to the space between the X-electrode and the Y-electrode increases as time goes. In the second step, the voltage applied to the X-electrode is pulse shaped.
