Arrangement for improving refractive index homogeniety of quartz glass bodies comprises a burner arranged in a melting device opposite the quartz glass bodies. The burner has concentrically arranged nozzle groups for dosing raw material, introducing hydrogen and introducing oxygen. The oxygen and/or hydrogen streams of the burner gas are changed depending on the burner position relative to the quartz glass bodies to vary the mixing ratio in the burner gas. Preferred Features: Only the hydrogen stream or the oxygen stream is changed to change the mixing ratio. The mixing ratio lies between 1.6 and 3.5 g/l.
