A method of producing a lithium/manganate composite oxide particulate composition, which comprises: heating at least one manganese compound selected from a manganese oxide represented by the general formula (I): MnOy.zH2O in which y represents a rational number of 1 to 2 and z represents a rational number of 0 to 1, excluding a case in which y=3/2 and z=1/2, and a basic manganese carbonate represented by the general formula (II): Mn(OH)a(CO3)b in which a represents rational number of 0 to 2 and b represents a rational number of 0 to 1, in an aqueous solution of lithium hydroxide and then separating the same from the aqueous solution.
