Utilizing particulate ferrous material in cupola or other hot gas blast furnace by mixing it together with any desired alloying additives with some molten casting metal in a mixing vessel, stirring it in and then feeding the mixture to the furnace. The mixture is preferably allowed to solidify prior to feeding and the amounts and temperatures of the molten metal are so adjusted that the particles all melt at least to the extent that the solidified mixture is coherent when fed to the furnace.
