A novel substance promoting the production and secretion of mucin in ocular tissues. A remedy for keratoconjunctival diseases containing gefarnate as the active ingredient and being applicable to dry eyes, keratitis, conjunctivitis, corneal eptithelial detachment, corneal ulcer, etc. It is preferably in the dosage form of eye drops. The concentration of gefarnate therein ranges, for example, from 0.1 to 3 % (w/v).
