Cosmetic composition (A) comprises, in aqueous medium or water-solvent mixture, at least one dye (I), particularly a hair dye, and at least one ionic, non-phosphorylated thickener (II) of molecular weight below 2000. (II) contains at least two amide groups, an asymmetric carbon atom and a fatty chain of at least 8C.
