NECK SEAL FOR HOLDING OIL IN BEARING AND CUTTING OFF POLLUTANTS

PURPOSE: A neck seal is provided to retain effectively oil in a bearing and to cut off pollutants by reducing friction between a seal body and an end of a sleeve and combining favorably a supporting unit. CONSTITUTION: A neck seal(24') is used in an oil film bearing assembly for a roll(10) in a mill. The roll comprises a neck having a tapered medium section(14) extending to an end section with the reduced diameter received in a sleeve(18). The sleeve is rotatively journal-processed in a bushing(20) fixed for a roll neck and fastened in a choke(22). The neck seal is mounted on the tapered section of the roll neck and rotated together at a position surrounded by a seal end plate(44) fixed to the choke. The neck seal is composed of a flexible circular body having first and second flanges(32',34') formed with a shape and size determined to contact with the seal end plate in a sealing method, separated axially, and projected outward in the radial direction and first and second ridges(56,58) projected inward from the body in the radial direction and separated axially to contact with the tapered section of the roll neck. The first and second ridges are arranged radially together with the flanges and combined radially with the flanges by a solid medium unit of the body.
