PURPOSE: A defrost cycle time control method of a refrigerator is provided to reduce energy consumption caused by unnecessary defrost operations than the refrigerator defrosting at regular cycles by variably regulating the defrost cycle of a defrost heater to the temperature around the refrigerator, operation ratio of a compressor, and time. CONSTITUTION: A defrost cycle time control method of a refrigerator is composed of steps for deciding if the accumulative operation ratio of a compressor exceeds a reference value for a pre-set time(S10); performing a variable defrost mode if the accumulative operation ratio of the compressor is over the reference value; deciding if the temperature measured by an RT-S(Room Temperature Sensor) exceeds a first temperature range(S12); operating a defrost heater by changing the cycle time driving the defrost heater into a first defrost cycle time if the measured temperature is over the first temperature range(S14); deciding if the measured temperature exceeds a second temperature range when the measured temperature is not over the first temperature range(S16); operating the defrost heater by changing the cycle time of the defrost heater into a second defrost cycle time if the measured temperature is over the second temperature range(S18); and operating the defrost heater by changing the cycle time of the defrost heater into a third defrost cycle time if the measured temperature is not over the second temperature range.
